Skyland Restaurant

CHARLOTTE, NC —  The Skyland Family Restaurant on South Boulevard will not be able to feed the hungry this Thanksgiving.

Owner Jimmy Kakavitsas says it is with deep regret that the annual tradition will not happen this year.

Kakavitsas says the impact of Covid-19 and the labor shortage played a major role in their decision.

He says many businesses have suffered a tremendous loss this year, and that Skyland has struggled too.

The family-owned restaurant has been feeding the homeless, poor, travelers, stranded individuals, and everyone in need a free homemade meal on Thanksgiving since 2005.

They handed out more than 3,000 boxes of turkey dinners with all the trimmings last year.
