The City of Charlotte announced Friday that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center will start to open back up to the public on Monday, Oct. 18.
The public will be able to attend meetings of Charlotte City Council, the Board of County Commissioners, the CMS Board of Education and quasi-judicial board meetings in-person starting on Oct. 18. Upon reopening to the public, the building will open 30 minutes prior to the meetings and close 15 minutes after the conclusion of the meetings. The mask mandate remains at CMGC.
Beginning on Monday, Nov. 1, the building will reopen to the public during regular business hours along with meetings.
The public in-person attendance policy is subject to change if there is new guidance from the CDC, NC DHHS or other public agencies or if there are additional Governor’s Executive Orders increasing public health restrictions.
All City Council meetings and committee meetings will continue to be live streamed on the city’s Facebook and YouTube pages, the GOV Channel on television, and the GOV Channel’s page.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — City officials say the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center will be closed to the public beginning Thursday, August 19th as a result of rising COVID-19 cases in Mecklenburg County.
Officials say this closure applies to all public meetings held by the Charlotte City Council, Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education.
The public is still invited to participate in these meetings virtually by signing up with each elected body’s Clerk’s Office.
