  • Mostly Cloudy and Cool Thursday
  • Isolated to Widely Scattered Showers Friday
  • Rain and Storms Saturday Afternoon
  • Warming trend next week

Discussion:

A dense fog advisory remains in place until 10 am today. We’re seeing visibility down to less than 1/4 of a mile up into the I-85 corridor – areas that received rain yesterday. Speaking of rain, the majority of the area has been removed from the open burn ban list. The counties remaining are Alexander, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Rowan and Watuaga. Temps today will reach the low 50s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Isolated to widely scattered showers return tomorrow afternoon as temps climb into the upper 50s to lower 60s. Temps will rise into the lower 70s Saturday. Depending on the timing of a strong cold front from the west, we might be dealing with a few stronger storms. Damaging wind would be the biggest threat, but keeping an eye on progression for possible isolated tornadoes. This front will at the very least bring an additional 1/2 to 1″ of rain. Drying out Sunday with a breezier start. Temps will reach the upper 50s. Highs climb the rest of the week into the mid-60s by Wednesday.
