CMPD: Armed Suspect At Northeast Charlotte Apartment Complex Surrenders





CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a northeast Charlotte apartment complex after reports of an armed person late Thursday morning.

Police responded around 11:40 a.m. to Campus Edge Circle to find two women inside an apartment. Officers learned that before their arrival, one woman had possibly discharged a firearm into the air.

Officers evacuated the surrounding area and continued attempts to de-escalate the situation peacefully. When the suspect refused to exit the residence, officers requested the assistance of CMPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team for additional resources to de-escalate the situation.

CMPD’s negotiators established verbal communication with the suspect, who surrendered to officers around 1:30 p.m, police said in a news release. The suspect’s identity will be released once she has been formally charged.

Police said no one was injured during the incident and officers did not fire their weapons.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
