Coldest Temps of the Season So Far, Plus Wintry Mix Thursday for Some

[ad_1]

AM Headlines:

  • Cold and cloudy days ahead
  • Rain returns Thursday
  • Wintry mix for mountains
    • ~1″ of snow possible for the highest elevations
  • Frost/Freeze possible Fri/Sat mornings

Discussion:

Bundle up! The coldest air of the season is here with temps only reaching the mid-50s this afternoon. A cold front will settle south of the area today. Cold air damming will keep it chilly and cloudy for areas east of the mountains. Peeks of sun more likely for the higher elevations. A disturbance will ride along with this boundary pumping moisture into the region overnight into Thursday. A cold light rain will be all we’ll see for much of the area with rain/snow and then light snow back to rain mix for elevations above 3500′. Not much to write home about in terms of snow totals, but about 1/2″ to 1″ will be possible. More concerned for icy spots developing in the mountains overnight as temps fall below freezing Friday morning. For the rest of the region, the rain will wrap Thursday night with the first frost or even freeze of the season possibly Friday and Saturday mornings. Clouds will be slow to give on Friday with temps reaching the mid-50s. The Upper 50s for Saturday with the 60s returning Sunday. Temps will climb through next week with highs reaching the low 70s by Thursday. Minimal rain chances after tomorrow.
