CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted armed robbery at a Mount Pleasant pawn shop after the owner was shot several times Thursday morning.

Deputies received a call around 10:15 a.m. from an off-duty officer about an armed robbery that had just happened at Mount Pleasant Sporting Goods and Pawn Store, located on West Franklin Street, in Mt. Pleasant.

The sheriff’s office learned from the call that two Black men entered the store and during their attempted robbery of the business, the pawn shop owner was shot several times and had to be taken to a local hospital for medical care.

After the attempted robbery, officers say the two Black men fled the scene in the same car they arrived in.

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office then issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for the grey Ford Focus with unique characteristics and the two Black men inside.

Authorities say later, a car matching the description of the grey Ford Focus arrived at Stanly County Memorial Hospital in Albemarle, N.C. and dropped off Sean Christian Parker, 21.

Police say after dropping him off, the one remaining man took off in the Ford Focus and left the hospital.

A short time later, Stanly County Sheriff’s Deputies located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Authorities say the man inside was identified as Maliq Raekwon Parker, 18.

After being interviewed by detectives, Sean Parker and Maliq Parker were each charged for their involvement in the attempted robbery.

  • Sean Christian Parker was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and was given a $750,000.00 secured bond.
  • Maliq Raekwon Parker was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, two counts of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property and was given a $1,000,000.00 secured bond.

Police say the two suspects are currently incarcerated in the Cabarrus County Detention Center.
