Eight Arrests Made after Kidnapping and Shooting in Caldwell County

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Eight people are behind bars after authorities say they were involved in a shooting and kidnapping on Tuesday morning.

Caldwell County deputies say they responded to Caldwell Memorial Hospital in regards to a 24-year-old shooting victim that was dropped off at the emergency room. The victim of the shooting, told deputies he was shot twice in his torso. The victim said the incident happened while he was with his 35-year-old girlfriend at an acquaintance’s house.

The victim told authorities while at the home, he and his girlfriend were assaulted, tied up and blindfolded by a group of people before being taken to an unknown location. The victim says that shots were fired at him and his girlfriend but that she was uninjured.

Caldwell County deputies say they spoke with the girlfriend who corroborated the statements made by the victim. She says that after the shooting and the group of people had left, she walked to a nearby road and flagged down a car that transported them to the hospital.

Authorities say after working with the victim and his girlfriend they determined the location where the couple was assaulted, bound and blindfolded was on Joplin Road in Hudson, North Carolina. The shooting took place at an abandoned property on Hood’s Creek Road.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office say they served a warrant at the property on Joplin Road and found eight people at the location. They also say they found a firearm and other items.

Sheriff Alan C. Jones released a statement that says “We intend to charge everyone involved in cases that are related to guns, drugs, violence, and kidnapping. We take a firm stance against this type of behavior”.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.

The below individuals all face charges in connection to the case according to the Sheriff’s Office:

Bobby Dean Bowlin, 50 – One count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, One count of Attempted Murder, and One Count of 1st Degree Kidnapping

Hunter Dean Aungst, 20 – One count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, One count of Attempted Murder, and One Count of 1st Degree Kidnapping

Elka Mackenna James, 20 – One count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, One count of Attempted Murder, and One Count of 1st Degree Kidnapping

Anthony Scott Bumgarner, 36 – One count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, One count of Attempted Murder, and One Count of 1st Degree Kidnapping

Tabitha Renee Bumgarner, 36 – One Count of 1st Degree Kidnapping

Adam Solis Hernandez, 23 – One Count of 1st Degree Kidnapping

Tristan Douglas Coffey, 22 was charged and served with:
One Count of 1st Degree Kidnapping, Failure to Appear/Indecent Exposure

Devan Alan Souther, 18 – One Count of 1st Degree Kidnapping
