IREDELL CO., N.C. — The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday that one of their own sergeants has died from COVID-19 complications.

Deputies say Sergeant Gary Mayhorn will be greatly missed, and they ask the community to keep the Mayhorn family in their thoughts and prayers at this time.

Sergeant Mayhorn began serving the citizens of Iredell County in 2003. Authorities say he served as a deputy in the Civil Division and most recently as a sworn deputy assigned to the Detention Center as a Supervisor.

In a post on Facebook the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said “Sergeant Mayhorn will be remembered as a humble, caring officer, who gave so much of himself to ensure the safety and well being of those entrusted to his care. He always had a smile on his face, and often an encouraging word, when you saw him.”
