CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The longest outage in Facebook history is over.
The company’s social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp are back online.
Local businesses that depend on the platforms to drive business say they saw an impact.
“I think, for the average person, it might be an inconvenience, but for somebody like us… an outage like this can hurt,” says Ella Stone, owner of SWIRL in Southeast Charlotte.
Cybersecurity expert Theresa Payton, with Fortalice Solutions, says most cyber incidents like this are human error.
But in this case, it’s still too early to know if what happened with Facebook is simply a huge mistake or if it could be something more sinister.
