Strong to Severe Storms Possible to Start the Week

AM Headlines:

  • A cold front will bring scattered storms to the area today
    • SPC has the region under a level 2 severe threat
    • Damaging wind will be the main threat but can’t rule out an isolated tornado
  • Cooler temps through mid-week
  • More rain and storms by Thu/Fri

A cold front will bring a small window of opportunity for scattered strong to severe storms this afternoon. Highs ahead of this system will reach the upper 70s under partly cloudy skies. The Storm Prediction Center has the majority of the area under a slight risk for severe storms. The biggest threat with any storms that develop will be the potential for damaging wind gusts, but an isolated tornado can’t be totally ruled out. The timing for severe storms will be 4-9 pm. Looking at model guidance the pop needed for these storms seems to be missing, but it will still be something to watch. Flash flooding won’t be a threat as this boundary will move through quickly. Cooler and quiet for your Tuesday and Wednesday with daytime highs reaching the low 70s and overnight lows tumbling into the mid-40s by Tuesday night. Another round of rain and storms returns Thursday. This will bring much-needed soaking rain to the area. Much cooler end to the week with highs struggling to break into the low 60s. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 40s. Halloween will have a much brighter outlook with drier weather more likely.
