SUV Driver In Parade Crash May Have Been Fleeing A Crime, 6 Children Hurt

At least six children injured when an SUV plowed through a Christmas parade in suburban Milwaukee are listed in critical condition.

Waukesha police say that all told, at least five people were killed and more than 40 hurt in the tragedy Sunday.

One person has been taken into custody, and a law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity tells The Associated Press that investigators are looking into whether the driver was fleeing a crime involving a knife at the time.

Doctors say 18 patients between the ages of 3 and 16 were taken Children’s Wisconsin Hospital.

They include three sets of siblings.

Those injured suffered serious head injuries, broken bones and scrapes on their faces, with six people operated on Sunday night and two more in surgery on Monday.

WAUKESHA, WISCONSIN — Police in Waukesha, Wisconsin say there are ‘some fatalities’, and more than 20 injuries after someone driving an SUV sped through a crowd during a holiday parade Sunday.

Authorities say at least 11 adults, and 12 children were taken to area hospitals following the incident.

Witnesses say multiple people were lying on the ground injured.  Waukesha Police are advising people to avoid the downtown area, and have established a family reunification center.

Officials have recovered the suspected vehicle, and a person of interest is in custody.  So far, there’s no word on the exact number of fatalities.

Waukesha is located about 50 miles northwest of Kenosha, Wisconsin.
