MONROE, N.C. – The battle over masks and contact tracing continues in Union County Public Schools.

Tuesday night, board members approved a resolution asking the state to end contact tracing and quarantines in schools.

Parents on both sides spoke out before and during Tuesday night’s meeting.

“It’s not about health, it’s not about safety, it’s not about the kids. This is about politics and personal ambitions and it’s just sad, it’s not about our children,” says parent K. Lee Smith.

“Despite opposition, Union County has led the way in putting the power back into hands of the real experts when it comes to children, their parents,” parent Noyes Harrigan told school board members.

Union County Public Schools continues to not have a mask mandate.

Board members voted Tuesday night to keep it that way for another month.
