CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Mecklenburg County will remain under an indoor mask mandate.
It comes as the county’s COVID percent positive rate rises above five percent again.
Mecklenburg County Health Director Gibbie Harris updated County Commissioners on Tuesday night.
The county will only drop its indoor mask mandate if the percent positive rate drops below five percent for seven straight days.
Under County Commission’s new rule, the earliest it could have happened would have been Wednesday.
But after briefly dipping, Mecklenburg’s numbers are on the rise again, up to six percent, for November 14th.
Harris told Commissioners the biggest obstacle to lifting the mandate is the number of people who remain unvaccinated.
“We can’t make them take it. We can make it available. And we can educate, and that’s what we’re trying to do right now,” she told Commissioners on Tuesday night.
